Phos hilaron

Hilaron Phos (Greek: Φῶς Ἱλαρόν ) is an early Christian hymn to Christ, which is called in German Heiteres light. He is already in the middle of the 2nd century detectable and in the Byzantine Orthodox Vespers liturgy still in use today. He is also part of the Old Catholic and Anglican celebration of Abendslobs (here in the translation by John Keble: Hail, gladdening Light or the 1979 Book of Common Prayer: " O gracious light" ). As Vesper Hymn to choose from it can also be found in the Roman Catholic Tagzeitenliturgie.
