Phosphatidylethanolamine

Phosphatidylethanolamines ( PE for short, also Kephaline ) are among the lipids, more specifically to the phosphoglycerides. They are one of the major phospholipids involved in the construction of biomembranes. Common structural element is glycerin, wherein the two of the three hydroxy groups, each with a fatty acid esterified with a third monoalkyl phosphate. The end of the alkyl group continues to bear an amino group.

The free hydroxyl group of the phosphate group is deprotonated under physiological conditions before, the amino group is protonated. The R's are the hydrocarbon chains of the fatty acids.
