Phosphorus (V ) sulphide is a hygroscopic chemical that is mainly used for synthesis of other products. It usually occurs as P4S10 complex and is often also called di- phosphorus pentasulfide.
Representation
Phosphorus (V) - sulfide is obtained by melting of the elements and sulfur, white phosphorus at about 300 ° C.
Properties
The structure corresponds to that of phosphorus pentoxide.
With water (or atmospheric humidity ) forms of phosphorus (V ) sulfide malodorous and toxic in larger amounts of H2S and phosphoric acid. Phosphorus (V ) sulphide is soluble in carbon disulfide.
Use
Phosphorus (V) sulphide and phosphorus- organic compounds used for the synthesis, in particular insecticides and zinc dialkyldithiophosphates ( additives of lubricants ). Phosphorous (V ) sulfide can also be used to prepare the nerve warfare agent VX ( " dual-use "). For preparative recovery of 1,4- dicarbonyl compounds are thiophenes also with phosphorus ( V) sufid implemented. Amides can be prepared by reaction with phosphorus (V ) sulfide convert to thionamides:
