Phrynichus (comic poet)

Phrynichus ( Φρύνιχος ) was a poet of the old Attic comedy from Athens.

Phrynichus to have given his debut as a playwright as Eupolis in the year 429 BC. In the list of winners of the Dionysia he is three places behind Aristophanes and two behind Eupolis. The Lenaea he twice won the first prize. The Dionysia he was 414 BC third with his play " The Hermit " ( Monotropós, Μονότροπος ), 405 BC, he was with " The Muses " ( Musai, Μοῦσαι ) second in the Lenaea. Among his works are still ten known by name, but of which very few fragments are only to be reconstructed. In his piece " Konno " ( Κόννος ) probably was the music teacher of Socrates, the main character, the title character of " hermit " was a character that was reminiscent of that of the " Dyskolos " of Menander. In the " Muses " probably a poetry competition was held, of " The Frogs" was reminiscent of Aristophanes and Sophocles and Euripides in the well competed against each other. He also presented several times notorious Athenians in his plays in satirical form is so Peisander, Exekestides, Meton, Nicias and Syrakosios.
