Phyllis Covell

Phyllis Lindrea Covell ( May 22nd, 1895 in London, † October 28, 1982 in Heyshott, West Sussex ) was a British tennis player.

Life

Covell was primarily a successful double player. In 1919, she reached the final of the World Indoor Championships in Paris at the side of Dorothy Holman. In 1923 she won Kathleen McKane Godfree along with the doubles competition of the U.S. Championships. A year later she was again successful with Godfree at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924: the two won the silver medal in women's doubles after the U.S. women Hazel Wightman and Helen Wills Moody was defeated in the finals. In the years 1924 and 1929 Covell reached the finals in women's doubles and 1921 Wimbledon mixed- finals in each case.

She died in 1982 at the age of 87 years.
