Phyllonoma

The Phyllonoma are the only plant genus of the family of Phyllonomaceae in the order of the holly -like ( Aquifoliales ) within the angiosperms ( Magnoliophyta). The genus has only areas in the Neotropics from Mexico to Peru.

Description

The Phyllonoma species are trees and shrubs. The change-constant leaves are simple. The leaf margin serrate or smooth. The stipules are small.

The genus is easily recognized by the fact that the frets then inflorescences on their foliage leaves ( epiphyllously ) are. The small and inconspicuous flowers are hermaphroditic and four to fünfzählig. It is four to five green sepals and three to five green petals present. It's just a circle with four to five free, fertile stamens present. Two carpels are fused into one inferior ovary, with two free stamps. The berries contain only a few (three to six) seeds.

The plants accumulate aluminum ions.

System

This genus was formerly classified in the family of Grossulariaceae, and some authors have questioned the family Phyllonomaceae to the order of Hydrangeales. A synonym for the genus is Dulongia Kunth, and for the Dulongiaceae JGAgardh family.

Phyllonoma genus and therefore the family of Phyllonomaceae comprises four ( or eight ) types:

  • Phyllonoma laticuspis ( Turcz. ) Engl: home is Mexico. This type reaches stature heights from 1.5 to 10 m.
  • Phyllonoma ruscifolia Willd. ex Schult. ( Syn: Dulongia acuminata Kunth, Dulongia integerrima Turcz, Phyllonoma integerrima ( Turcz. ) Loes. . ): It is native to the Andes at altitudes between 1000 and 1500 m.
  • Phyllonoma tenuidens Pittier: History is Central America.
  • Phyllonoma weberbaueri Engl: It is native to the Andes at altitudes 2000-2500 m.
