Origin and History

The Epagneul Français and the Epagneul Picard were popular in the French royal house. Both breeds come from Picardy. The landscapes of the Picardie region are divided into diverse field, water, forest and marsh. This one needed a dog that is robust and eager to work, good projects, and takes place in the many streams of water wild region.

About 90 years ago they started from a basic type to breed two different breeds. They resemble the German Longhair and the Great Munsterlander. Even today, the focus of breeding in Picardy and especially the Somme countryside.

1908, the breed was established as a separate breed in the SCC and recognized by the FCI.

Description

The Epagneul Picard of the figure produces the strongest among the French long- haired breeds. The rather coarse, not very silky coat is gray mottled with brown patches, usually has tan markings on the legs, especially the muzzle, above the eyes, and gray mold is allowed to lots of white but not solicited. The hanging ears are rather low set and covered with beautiful wavy silky hair, as is the tail, which should not be too long. This was not docked in contrast to other hunting dogs in the past. A beautiful flag, which is longer fur on the tail is desirable.

Use

The Epagneul Picard is a hunting dog. Its reliability in welding at chasing his passion water, the quiet quick search under the gun, and its tractability have made him very quickly to demand all-rounder.
