Picea glauca#Uses

The Sugarloaf spruce (Picea glauca var albertiana ' Conica ') is a dwarf cultivar of the white spruce originating from North America, which was discovered in 1904 at Lake Laggan in Canada.

The Sugar Pine is a very popular garden plant in Central Europe. It is very slow (2 to 10 cm growth per year) and in 15 years to about 1.5 meters high. In the garden it is suitable for sun to partial shade and is hardy. It is also suitable as a container plant. It prefers moist soil and a cooler area in the garden. On dry sites it is easier attacked by pests.

The name comes from the growth form that is similar to the standard in the 19th century form of loaf sugar.
