Pichanal

Pichanal is a town in the department of Oran in Salta Province in northwestern Argentina. It is equipped with 18,773 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) is the fourth largest city of the province.

Location

Pichanal located on the banks of the Río Colorado, a few miles west of its confluence with the Río Bermejo.

With several nearby towns in the valley of the Río Bermejo Pichanal forms a conurbation with a total of about 130,000 inhabitants. The largest of these places are San Ramon de la Nueva Oran ( 74,000 inhabitants), Embarcación (24,000 inhabitants), and Hipólito Yrigoyen ( 11,000 inhabitants).

History

In the nineteenth century Pichanal was a small village. With the connection to the railway network on January 4, 1911 its economic boom began.
