Pico Viejo crater

The Pico Viejo, also called Chahorra is with its 3135 meters after the Teide the second highest peak of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. It lies within the Teide National Park on the southwest flank of Mount Teide, and forms the Teide - Pico Viejo complex. Its crater has a diameter of 800 m and is up to 250 m deep.

On Pico Viejo on already last eruption occurred in the boundaries of the caldera Cañadas. From 9 June to 14 September 1798 outbreak of the thickness 3 of Vulkanexplosivitätsindex took place at his flank. The crater Narices del Teide emerged ( nostrils of the Teide ), and there was a vast lava flow produced.
