Picolinic acid ( pyridine-2 -carboxylic acid) is an organic compound that the heterocycles (more precisely, heteroaromatics ) counts. They consist of a pyridine ring which is substituted with a carboxyl group (-COOH). It belongs with the other two isomers of nicotinic acid and isonicotinic acid to the group of pyridine carboxylic acids with molecular formula C6H5NO2.
From the picolinic acid is especially the dipicolinic acid ( pyridine -2 ,6 -dicarboxylic acid) infers that the nitrogen atom of the pyridine carrying two carboxyl groups in the immediate neighborhood.
Representation
By oxidation, for example by means of potassium permanganate ( KMnO4 ) is formed from 2-picoline, the picolinic acid.
