Pictive

Plastic Interface for Collaborative Technology Initiatives through Video Exploration ( PICTIVE ) is a consistently lightweight software development method for software development in a participatory project to integrate. The main features are the use of as simple, intuitive techniques and a strong focus on the design of the user interface.

PICTIVE was developed by MJ Muller in the early 1990s as an alternative to the highly structured, originating from Scandinavia participatory development methods. The participation is demanded of PICTIVE primarily through the participation of users in the design. This investment is intended to be enhanced by the active participation of the user and the intended imaging in the development process.

Procedure

In the spirit of its main policies, there is a simple, repeatable process when necessary step: the PICTIVE session, which consists of the following parts:

  • The creation of an everyday scenario by the user for the system to be developed,
  • The development of design solution elements by the user,
  • The mutual introduction of all participants, usually a developer and the user, and an optional short introduction to the mutual importance to the software system specialties,
  • A discussion phase, during which generates a final design solutions and
  • A test in the form of a run by the selected design solution on the basis of everyday life scenarios with the simultaneous visualization of design decisions.

Tools

It is important that all design proposals do not place on your computer but with intuitive everyday tools such as pen and paper. The solution should already cover the entire window layout. For the last phase of PICTIVE session, a video recording of the run can be done to make the succession of content not involved in PICTIVE developer at a later implementation identified.
