Picún Leufú

Picún Leufú is the capital of the department of Picún Leufú in the province of Neuquén in southwest Argentina. Picún Leufú is something halfway between Neuquén and San Carlos de Bariloche on the Ruta Nacional 237 The place belongs in the classification of municipalities in the province of Neuquén to the municipalities of the second category.

History

Picún Leufú derived from the Mapudungun language of the Mapuche. Picún means north and Leufú river, the whole place name So River of the North. The place was introduced by Decree no. 79 488 founded on 12 September 1971.
