Pierre Brully

Brully Pierre ( Peter also Brullius; * 1518 probably in Metz, † February 19, 1545 in Tournai ) was a Calvinist preacher, who was burned in Flanders in the mid-16th century due to illegal proselytizing publicly burned at the stake.

Life

Pierre Brully, who was called in Latin, the then customary among scholars in Europe Language, Peter Brullius, was born about 1518 in Lorraine. As an adult he changed the denomination to Calvinism, came to Strasbourg in 1541 and managed there, the Reformed Christians who had taken refuge in the free imperial city. 1544 called him the suffering of persecution Reformed in Flanders for help. He went to Tournay and preached here despite a ban. He was executed there on the market place on February 19, 1545 at the stake.
