Pierre Charles

Pierre Charles ( * June 30, 1954 in Grand Bay, † January 6, 2004 in Roseau ) was a politician dominicanischer. From 2000 until his death, he was prime minister of the Caribbean island.

Charles was a member of the Dominica Labour Party. Before he became Prime Minister, he was already in a range of functions to the Cabinet. Among other things, he had served as Minister of Communications and the Minister of Labour. Most recently, he was Foreign Minister of Dominica in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Rosie Douglas. Two days after Douglas ' death Charles was elected on 3 October 2000 as his successor.

In February 2003, ill Charles heavy and had to undergo angioplasty. His health was cast after a withdrawal noisy. On the recommendation of his cardiologist Charles handed over in November 2003, the official leadership to his deputy, Foreign Minister Osborne Riviere, to take up a convalescent leave, but remained officially in office.

On January 6, 2004 Charles collapsed and died at the age of 49 years at the Princess Margaret Hospital of Dominica 's capital, Roseau.
