Pierre-Claude Nivelle de La Chaussée

Pierre Claude Nivelle de La Chaussée ( born February 14, 1692 in Paris, † March 14, 1754 ibid ) was a French dramatist.

La Chaussée occurred only in his 40th year with a small poem to the public, then turned to the theater and was the founder of the so-called comédie larmoyante. He wrote only in verse, followed the rules of classical drama strict and moved his act into the middle classes. Yet his situations devoid of any humor.

From 1736 he was a member of the Académie française ( fauteuil 17).
