Pierre-Claude-Victor Boiste

Pierre -Claude Boiste (* 1765 in Paris, † April 24, 1824 in Ivry -sur -Seine ) was a French linguist and lexicographer.

Life and work

Boiste was a lawyer, then Printers and Publishers. In 1800 he published his Dictionnaire universel de la langue Francoise, one of the biggest successes dictionary of the French language, which was published until 1866 in 15 editions. The success was due to the 50 years that followed the French Revolution in the profound restructuring of French society. Many little Educated reached economically in positions corresponding to the ambition for language that is especially orthographic correctness aroused in them. This resulted in a need for documentation of the place in the early industrial age rapidly proliferating technical terms. This need was the dictionary of the Académie française helpless. Boiste other hand, managed to achieve by getting further expansion, the impression of completeness and so to satisfy a primal myth of lexicography.
