Pierre Daret

Pierre Daret, actually Daret Pierre de Cazeneuve (* 1604 in Paris, † March 29, 1678 at Château de la Luque at Dax (Landes) ) was a French painter and engraver.

After his training in painting and engraving to Daret held some years in Italy. In his early work, the focus was on the oil painting, later Daret then moved to the engraving.

Here, Daret oriented to French, Italian and Dutch masters of the 17th century, such as Federico Barocci, Jacques Blanchard, Caravaggio, Annibale Carracci, Lodovico Carracci Anthony van Dyck, Justus van Egmont, Guido Reni, Jacques Sarazin, Gerard Seghers, Jacques Stella, Eustache Le Sueur and Simon Vouet.

At the age of almost 75 years, Pierre Daret died on March 29, 1678 at Château de la Luque at Dax.

Darets entire artistic work demonstrates accuracy and delight in detail. Through him many live near portraits of his contemporaries have survived. He has published, among others together with his colleague Louis Boissevin a series of 76 portraits of " Famous Men of the 17th century " and also worked as a writer.
