Pierre Eyt

Pierre Étienne Louis Cardinals Eyt ( born June 4, 1934 in Laruns, France, † 11 June 2001 in Bordeaux) was Archbishop of Bordeaux.

Life

Pierre Eyt studied in Bayonne, Toulouse and Rome, the subjects Catholic theology and philosophy. He earned his doctorate in theology and received on 29 June 1961, the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1961 to 1963 he worked as a chaplain in Bayonne, before he was sent for two years to Rome for the purpose of further studies. He then taught at Toulouse and Paris Catholic theology. On July 16, 1976 he was awarded by Pope Paul VI. the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness. In 1982, he became president of the Association of Catholic institutions for higher education in France. In 1984 he founded in Jerusalem a center for Jewish studies.

1986 Pope John Paul II appointed him to the archbishopric of Bordeaux Koadjutorerzbischof whose line Eyt Pierre took over in 1989. On November 26, 1994, he was accepted as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santissima Trinità al Monte Pincio in the College of Cardinals. He died on 11 June 2001 in Bordeaux and was buried in the cemetery of his birthplace Laruns.
