Pierre Gouthière

Pierre Gouthière (* 1732 in Bar-sur -Aube, † 1813 in Paris) was a French chaser who received many orders from the French royal house. He was the inventor of the matt gilding.

Life

Pierre Gouthière learned the craft of Ciseleurs at François Ceriset, whose widow he later married. At the height of his success he made 1772-1780 a mansion building, which is now called the Hôtel Gouthière. It is located 6, rue Pierre Bullet, behind the Mairie of the 10th arrondissement. Since he had ruined himself financially, he had to sell the City Palace. He died in 1813 in absolute poverty.

In 1933, a street in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, Rue Gouthière, named after him.
