The Pierre Guillaumat was the largest ever built in one piece ship ( according to GRT / GT - surveying ), a crude oil tanker. She was also among the class of post- Suezmax ships ( ULCC ). It was named after Pierre Guillaumat, the first defense minister of the Fifth Republic and founder of the company Elf Aquitaine.

History

The Pierre Guillaumat was built in France in 1977 at the time the Alstom Group company Chantiers de l' Atlantique in St Nazaire and delivered to the French shipping company Compagnie Nationale de Nav (CNN) in October 1977. It was the third ship of Batillus class, a series of four 550,000 - dwt tankers. The first two had been delivered to the Societe Maritime Shell, Paris as Batillus in June 1976 and Bellamya in December 1976. The fourth ship arrived in 1979 as Prairial going. The Pierre Guillaumat but was scrapped in 1983 after only six years, and Batillus Bellamya followed in 1985 and 1986, during the Glorious First was only later scrapped as Giant Sea 2003.
