Pierre Hantaï

Pierre Hantaï ( born February 28, 1964 in Paris ) is a French harpsichordist and conductor in the field of historical performance practice.

Life

Pierre Hantaï is a son of the painter Simon Hantaï. After training as a harpsichordist Arthur Haas Hantaï studied for two years with his idol Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam. From the mid- 1980s, he began to play under his authority. He also frequently collaborated with Sigiswald Kuijken and Philippe Herreweghe. Since the mid- 1990s, he preferred a career as soloist and conductor of small baroque music ensembles, of which he temporarily own, " Le Concert Français " initiated. Hantaï is regarded as a virtuoso, while orthodox exponent of traditional Baroque repertoire.

His two brothers Marc Hantaï and Jérôme Hantaï are also well-known musicians in the baroque scene.

In 1995 he was awarded the Erwin Bodky Award for Early Music.
