Pierre Jamet

Pierre Jamet (* April 21, 1893 in Orleans, † 17 June 1991 Gargilesse- Dampierre ) was a French harpist and music teacher.

Life and work

Pierre Jamet had as a child, taught by his mother. He first played the piano, then chromatic harp. From 1906 he attended the Paris Conservatory, the class of Marie - Tassu Spencer. He then moved on to the double -action pedal harp and the Alphonse Hasselmans teacher. In 1912 he was awarded first prize in the tray.

In 1913 he became a member of the orchestra of the Théâtre des Champs- Elysées, conducted by Désiré -Émile Inghelbrecht. Since 1917 he also worked as a soloist. On March 9, 1917, he played in the first performance of Claude Debussy's Trio for flute, viola and harp. In 1920 he was harpist of the Concerts Lamoureux. Two years later he founded an instrumental quintet in the cast harp, string trio and flute, which from 1945 Quintets Pierre Jamet. Composers such as Jean Françaix and Germaine Tailleferre have written works for this formation.

From 1936 to 1959 Jamet was also Soloharfenist at the Paris Opera, 1936-1938 at the Concerts Pasdeloup and thereafter until 1948 at the Concerts Colonne.

From 1948 to 1963 Jamet taught harp at the Conservatoire de Paris. In 1962 he founded the International Association of Harpistes et Amis de la Harpe, 1964 at the summer courses at the Académie de Gargilesse the École de Harpe.

Among his many students count Fabrice Pierre, Frédérique Gambreling, Catherine Michel, Bernard Galais, Martine Geliot, Gisèle Herbert, Corinne Le Du, Marie- Madeleine Bouchaud, Ghislaine Petit, Brigitte Sylvestre, Annie Fontaine and Françoise Netter from France, Suzanna Mildonian and Anna Mary Loro from Italy, Catherine Eisenhoffer from Switzerland, Yvette Colignon, Annie Lavoisier and Arielle Valibouse from Belgium, Carl Swanson from the U.S., Ernestine Stoop from Holland, Maria Graff from Germany, Setsuko Shimazaki from Japan, Annette Gol from Denmark and not last his daughter Marie -Claire Jamet.

In 1968, Jamet the annual Festival de Gargilesse, 1977 the International Harp Competition Concours Marie- Antoinette Cazala, held every three years until 1991.
