Pierre-Jean Porro

Pierre -Jean Porro (* around 1759 in Béziers, † May 31 1831 in Montmorency, near Paris ) was a French guitarist, composer and music publishers of classical music.

Pierre -Jean Porro, who probably had Italian ancestors, received musical training in his hometown. 1783 moved Porro to Paris, where he earned as a guitar teacher for a living. He began with the publication of a weekly magazine " Le Journal de Guitare "; in this he published collections of his own works for guitar. Guitar music enjoyed in the salons of the late 18th and early 19th century great popularity. Besides Porro worked in Paris 1780-1820 guitarists such as Filippo Gragnani ( 1767-1812 ), Fernando Sor, Mauro Giuliani, Dionisio Aguado and Ferdinando Carulli.

Strong demand prompted him in 1786 to found a larger publishing house, which also operated a trading instrument. More than by his own numerous compositions he had success. Due to the publication of sacred and secular works by Italian composers such as Francesco Durante, Niccolò Jommelli, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, but also composers of his time as Mozart and Haydn, which he instilled in the French public Several Porro composed works for the Lyragitarre.
