Pierre Phalèse the Elder

Phalèse Pierre ( Peter also Phalesius or van der Phaliesen; * 1510, † 1573 in Leuven ) was a Flemish music publisher and engraver. He lived in the temporal transition between the Burgundian Netherlands and the Spanish Netherlands.

Life

The son of the brewer Augustin vander Phaliesen founded in 1541 in Leuven, a university bookstore. 1552, he received the privilege to print notes, this was the birth of the music publisher. From 1572 he worked with Jean BELLERE together ( Jan also Bellerus ) in Antwerp and was primarily masses, motets and Magnificat, as well as French, Dutch and Italian songs out.
