Pierre Souvestre

Pierre Souvestre ( born June 1, 1874 in Plomelin, Quimper, Finistère, Brittany, France, † February 26, 1914 ) was a French lawyer, journalist, writer and organizer of motorsport. He is best known as co-author ( with Marcel Allain ) of the saga of the fictional arch- villain and master criminal Fantômas.

In 1909, when he was already a well-known figure in literary circles, he started in collaboration with his assistant Allain the first novella, Le Rour. The investigators Germain Fuselier, who repeatedly appears in the Fantômas series later, already appears in this novel.

Later, in February 1911, began Allain and Souvestre, on request of the editor ARTHEME Fayard to produce Fantômas as a book series. Fayard wanted to create a monthly pulp magazine. The success was immediately given and also held over.

1914 died Souvestre to a pulmonary congestion. After his death, Allain led the Fantômas saga continues alone.
