Pietro Loredan

Pietro Loredan (* 1372 in Venice, † October 28, 1438 in Venice) was a Venetian admiral.

Pietro Loredan was descended from the noble Venetian family of Loredan and was one of at least seven sons of the later procurator of San Marco Alvise and Giovanna. From Pietro's marriage at least five sons were born. In the war of Venice against the Ottoman Empire, he defeated Admiral in May 1416 Turkish fleet in the Battle of Gallipoli. After -won victory he allowed to Venice reports that the Turkish fleet for a long time will pose no threat to Venice more, a message that would prove to be premature.

Loredan was chosen in 1426 procurator of San Marco. In the election of the Doge Francesco Foscari was defeated and was leader of the opposition against the doge introduced, but already rejected by his predecessor Tommaso Mocenigo offensive policy with a view to permanent expansion and broadening of the Terraferma in northern Italy. After Foscari was only a few months earlier slipped out the remark in a fierce Senate debate that a proper governance it is not possible as long as " this devil of a Loredan " live, the rumor was rumored at the death of the admiral, the Doge had poisoned him. Loredan but died from a disease.
