Pietro Nardini

Pietro Nardini ( born April 12 in 1722 in Livorno, † May 7, 1793 in Florence) was an Italian composer and violinist of the pre-classical period.

Life

He was the most famous pupil of Giuseppe Tartini, Nardini who taught from the age of twelve. Statements about first appearances of the four- year-olds are known of 1736. In the years 1760 and 1765, he accepted invitations to the Viennese court to make music on the occasion of the wedding of the heir and future emperor Joseph II. From 1762 Nardini chamber musician at the court in Stuttgart and was 1763-1765 concertmaster of the court orchestra, which was led by Niccolò Jommelli. After 1765 brought him several trips to the Braunschweiger Hof. In 1769 he was concertmaster and 1770 music director at the court of the Grand Duke Leopold of Tuscany in Florence, where he worked until his death. Among his most important students were Bartolomeo Campagnoli and Thomas Linley junior.

In the years 1770 and 1771 he witnessed the performances of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on his first trip to Italy and his attempt to find a permanent job. Nardinis work of the early classical is attributable, in most works of Tartini's influence can be felt. Leopold Mozart heard Nardini 1763 in Ludwigsburg, he wrote to his landlord and patron Lorenz Hagenauer full of admiration; "Tell the H: Wenzl that I 've heard some Nardini, and that, in the beauty, purity, equality of tone and singable taste nothing better can be heard ." Charles Burney wrote in 1770 in Florence; " This afternoon I had the pleasure to hear Mr Nardini, he seems to be the best violinist in the whole of Italy to me." The poet and writer Friedrich Daniel Schubart Music wrote " ... the tenderness of his presentation can be impossible to describe: each Comma appears to be a declaration of love. It has been seen crying icy princes and ladies of the court, when he played an adagio "
