Pietro Parolin

Pietro Parolin Cardinal ( [ Pyotr Parolin ] born January 17, 1955 in Schiavon, Province of Vicenza, Italy) is a Roman Catholic cardinal, diplomat of the Holy See and State of His Holiness.

Life

After leaving school at a grammar school ( Liceo classico ) in Vicenza Pietro Parolin entered the seminary of Vicenza and studied Catholic theology and philosophy there. He completed his studies from the Bachelor of Theology at the Theological Faculty of Northern Italy in Milan. In 1979 he was ordained a deacon and then worked as a pastor in the parish of Holy Trinity in Schio.

On April 27, 1980 Pietro Parolin received by Bishop Arnoldo Onisto in the Cathedral of Vicenza, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Then he was in Schio to 1982 Kaplan. From 1984 to 1986 Parolin studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy and in 1986 at the Pontifical Gregorian University for Doctor of Canon Law ( Dr. iur. Can. ) Doctorate.

July 1, 1986 Parolin entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was first employees at the Apostolic Nunciature in Nigeria. Pope John Paul II conferred on him on 14 May 1988 honorary title Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ). In 1989, Pietro Parolin at the Apostolic Delegation in Mexico. He was nunciature counselor in the Section for Relations with States of the Vatican Secretariat of State in 1992 and was primarily responsible for Spain, Andorra, Italy and San Marino in this function. On November 30, 2002, he was appointed Under Secretary of the Section for Relations with States, that served as the Deputy Foreign Minister. As such, he repeatedly led to a delegation of the Holy See, which had taken up with the communist government in Vietnam since 1990 talks after diplomatic relations were broken off in the wake of the Communist takeover in 1975. He was also responsible for the diplomatic negotiations between Israel and the Holy See.

On 17 August 2009, he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Titular Archbishop of Aquipendium and Apostolic Nuncio to Venezuela. He received his episcopal consecration Benedict XVI. on 12 September of the same year in St. Peter's Basilica; Co-consecrators Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB were and the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada.

On August 31, 2013, Pope Francis appointed with effect from 15 October 2013, the successor of Tarcisio Bertone Secretary of State of His Holiness.

In solemn consistory of February 22, 2014 Pope Francis took him a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santi Simone e Giuda Taddeo a Torre Angela to the College of Cardinals.
