Pijin ( New Solomonic, Solomon Islands Pidgin ) is an English -based creole language, as lingua franca is of great importance in the Solomon Islands.

It has about 15,000 and 300,000 other native speakers.

The vocabulary is more oriented towards the English language as that of Tok Pisin in Papua New Guinea. The grammar shows Melanesian peculiarities. A historically contingent relationship also exists for Bislama in Vanuatu.

Efforts are being made to standardize the spelling.
