The Picchu Picchu ( Nevado Pichu Pichu ) is the smallest of the three volcanoes near the city of Arequipa in southern Peru. Compared with Misti ( 5822 m) and Chachani ( 6057 m) of the Picchu Picchu with 5665 meters is a little lower. In addition, it is further away from the urban area, and due to the clearer air provides better distance vision. An ascent is possible as with Misti and Chachani the year.

The summit ridge with its seven peaks has an unusual zigzag structure, which the volcano its name Picchu Picchu, to German " tip top " owes; the word comes from the Quechua Picchu, meaning mountain. Easily recognizable within this zigzag is the lying figure of a man - according to the legend of a famous Incas - is said to have lain down to sleep at this point.

On the slopes of the mountain ruins and places of the Incas victims were found at about 5600 meters yet. Probably all of the main summit served as a platform for ceremonies, but which is now collapsed.
