Pilar (Capiz)

Pilar is the easternmost Greater Municipality in the province of Capiz on the island of Panay in the Philippines. It has 41 572 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ) living in 24 barangays. It belongs to the third income class municipalities in the Philippines and is described as partly urban.

Geography

Pilar is located on the north coast of the island of Panay in the Pilar Bay, in which the four -acre Tukad reef about 10 km off the coast of the municipality. The provincial capital, Roxas City is located, about 46 km west of the community and can be reached via the coastal road from there. The neighboring municipalities are President Roxas in the West, Carles and Bălăşan in the east. The international airport of Iloilo City is about 146 km away.

Attractions

In the township the highest statue of Mary stands on the Asian continent. It is 26 meters high and is in Agtaline Shrine. In the church, the Lola Ibe is laid out. Born as Maria de Juan Basañes she was exhumed 10 years after her death and found no significant decay process. Her body had been mummified in a natural process, this is considered in the Philippines as a miracle.

On the territory of the municipality are the two caves Balisong and Puting Bato, and the three waterfalls Hinulugan, in Brgy. Tabunacan, Lalawgon, in Brgy. Yating, and Kawawa, in Brgy. San Silvestre.
