History

To promote further veneration of St. John of Nepomuk, the building was erected in the years 1719-1722 on the initiative of the abbot of the Cistercian monastery Saar, Václav Vejmluva. The hill on which the Sanctuary was established, first as Černý les ( Black Forest) or Strmá hora was designated ( Steep Hill). Later he was sent to the place from which the Holy Nepomuk came (see Zelena hora ( Nepomuk ) ), and from where the first monks came to Zdar nad Vltavou, renamed " Zelena hora " ( Green Mountain ). To make the church from far visible, the dense pine forest was cleared on the hill. 1784 burned down the church and was rebuilt.

Architecture

Built by the architect Jan Blazej Santini - Aichl system combines Gothic and Baroque style elements, which created a style that finds no parallel in the whole of Europe.

The Church as the center of the complex and the outer container ring were planned as a unit and built. The construction of the church was built from the basic form of the circle, with several times the digit is repeated five, alluding to the five stars that surrounded the legend, the body of the martyr when he was found. To switch, for example, in the enclosure of the church five chapels with a triangular base with five chapels in the form of an oval from, and there are five entrances to the facility.

The central building is surmounted by a dome with lunettes, which are supported by ten pillars. Inside, you'll find small oval side chapels and the first floor galleries, which correspond to the underlying chapels. About the galleries extends a further handling.

Interior decoration

The main and high altar stands in the eastern arcade and extends to the railing of the second gallery. The five angels on the main altar and the four evangelists are the work of the sculptor Johann Paul Czech Pauer. They were completed after his death in 1726, his colleague Ignaz Rohrbach. Three of these angels carry a ball that symbolizes the vault of heaven, and which in turn is decorated with five stars. On this ball is a statue of St. Nepomuk, which was created by Gregor Theny. The choice of artists from the environment of the sculptor Matthias Bernard Braun - Theny once was a journeyman at Brown - is not accidental. Santini often worked with Brown and appreciated his imagery.

After the fire, the church was built in 1787 equipped with inventory from neighboring churches again. The pulpit and a side altar are from the Church of the Visitation in Obyčtov, the organ and the confessional in the Church of Sts. Wenzel in Radešínská Svratka.
