Design

As armament they should receive eight 13-cm L/55 quick -loading cannon and four 6.3 -cm L/55 guns. They were after their seizure with eight 15 -cm L/45 quick -loading cannon, four 5.2 -cm L/55 guns (later replaced by two 8.8 -cm L/45 guns ) and two 50 - cm - deck torpedo tubes equipped. In addition, 120 mines could be carried. With about 135 meters in length and a maximum displacement of 5,252 tons, these ships were somewhat smaller than those of the Graudenz class that the latest German light cruisers were at that time. Externally, the pillau class differs in its stem and on the nature and formation of their chimneys from the other cruiser classes.
