Pilot fish ( Naucrates ductor )

The pilot or pilot-fish ( Naucrates ductor ) is a fish of the family Carangidae. Pilot fish are almost exclusively seen in the company of sharks, manta rays and sea turtles. Rid of these skin parasites, eat leftovers and excretions. Young pilot fish swim with jellyfish or drifting seaweed. Pilot fish are up to 70 centimeters long. Characteristic are six to seven dark transverse bands around their bodies.

Dissemination

Pilot fish live worldwide in tropical, subtropical and temperate seas. In the western Atlantic extends their range of Nova Scotia to the coast of Argentina, in the eastern Atlantic from the British Isles to South Africa. In the eastern Pacific, they live from Vancouver to the coast of Chile, also in the entire Indian Ocean and the central Indo-Pacific, from Australia to Japan.
