The Pacific Investment Management Company, LLC ( PIMCO, PIMCO own spelling ) is an alliance of related investment company headquartered in Newport Beach in the U.S. state of California. It has to interest securities (bonds, annuities, Eng. Bonds) specializes and is now with about 1,000 billion U.S. dollars fixed assets of the largest companies in this segment.

Pimco is known among other things by the Pimco Total Return, currently the largest pension fund in the world, as well as through its fund manager William Gross. In Germany Pimco acts as investment adviser for pension fund of Allianz Global Investors.

History

Pimco was founded in 1971 in Newport Beach, and began as a subsidiary of life insurance and financial services company Pacific Life. Today Pimco addition to its headquarters in Newport Beach offices in New York, Tokyo, Singapore, London, Sydney, Munich, Toronto and Hong Kong.

Since 2000, Pimco is a wholly owned subsidiary of Allianz Global Investors of America, which in turn belongs to about 97 % of the alliance and about 3% of Pacific Life.

On 9 March 2011 of the nearly $ 240 billion Pimco Total Return Fund managed announced that he had completely separated in February 2011 by its holdings of U.S. debt papers because he feared a massive loss in value of U.S. Treasury bonds.
