Pina Carmirelli

Pina (prop, Giuseppina ) Carmirelli ( born January 23, 1914 in Varzi, † 27 February 1993 Capena) was an Italian violinist.

Life

Pina Carmirelli studied at the Milan Conservatory Violin ( Michelangelo Abbado ) and composition and put 1930 or 1936 her diploma examinations. In 1937 she gave her first concerts and began an international career. As early as 1941, she taught at the Conservatory of Rome. In 1949 she founded the Quintetto Boccherini and 1954, the Quartetto Carmirelli, with whom she went on numerous tours and records grossed. Frequently it also joined on as a duo with pianist Sergio Lorenzi. From 1977 to 1986 she was concertmaster of the chamber orchestra I Musici. In 1979, she founded the Quintetto Fauré di Roma.

Carmirelli was regarded as a specialist in the music of Luigi Boccherini and gave his instrumental works in a revised new edition out.

Awards

Pina Carmirelli was, inter alia, awarded the first prize for chamber music at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ( class of Arrigo Serato ) and the Paganini Prize ( 1940).
