Pinacol (from Greek pinákion, tablets ' ), formerly also called pinacone, is an organic compound from the group of alkane diols. The two hydroxyl groups are in the pinacol on adjacent carbon atoms ( in vicinal position ). Pinacols can be generated by pinacol coupling reaction of ketones or aldehydes, said radical occur as intermediates.

Pinacols

Starting from pinacol are generally compounds having the structure R1R2C (OH) C (OH) R3R4 ( with the residues R1 - R4, with the two OH groups are on adjacent carbon atoms ) and pinacols (substituted 1,2-diols ), respectively. Pinacols can undergo acid-catalyzed pinacol rearrangements Pinakolonen.

Examples of compounds derived:

  • Pinacolone ( CAS: 75-97-8 )
  • Soman ( CAS: 96-64-0 )
  • Pinakolyl - Dimethylphosphinat ( CAS: 92411-69-3 )
  • Perfluorpinakol ( CAS: 918-21-8 )

Use

Is used pinacol as:

  • An intermediate for the production of pharmaceuticals (eg, 2 - aminophenylboronic acid pinacol ester )
  • Intermediate for the preparation of pinacolone
