Pinan series

Heian Sandan is a kata in Shotokan (karate ), which is learned from the Karateka right after Heian Nidan. Her older name under which it is still performed in some other styles, Pinan Sandan is. It consists essentially of alternating defense techniques from the lower ( attack Steps | thoughts ) to the middle ( attack Steps | Chudan ) level.

The aim of the Kata is mainly learning the use of the front arm against attacks to the body, especially the proper posture of the elbow always about a fist width from the upper body.
