Pinchas David Horowitz

Raw Pinchas David Horovitz, called Admor of Boston ( * 1876 in Jerusalem, † November 28, 1941 in Williamsburg ), was chief rabbi, kabbalist, and founder (1915 ) of the Hasidic Boston Dynasty ( Boston Hasidim ), who was revered by many as a wonder rabbi. In reports of his contemporaries, his great learning, his kindness and his generosity are highlighted again and again.

Life

He was the first Rebbe of Boston, a descendant of Reb Shmelke of Mikulov and the maternal Lelov Dynasty. He was born according to the Jewish calendar in the year 5636 in the Old City of Jerusalem. Until his seventh year of age he was under the influence of his grandfather, Raw Eliezer Mendel Biedermann, the Admor of Lelov. After his death occurred Raw Biedermann's son, Raw David Biedermann, in its place. In his youth Raw Pinchas David Torah learned on Raw Schne'ur Zalman of Lublin. Later he continued his studies with great diligence in Safed. As Pinchas David's father died, he returned to Jerusalem.

In 1915 he came to adventurous ways of Eretz Israel over Europe to New York and then to Boston, where he was accepted by the local Jewish community immediately as Rebbe. Incentives of the community in New York, he had refused and instead opted out of gratitude for Boston, because this community had given him an entry visa into the United States.

In 1939 he went to Brooklyn and opened there the Boston Beis Midrash ( Yiddish: " House of Study " ) of Williamsburg. In his last years left him more and more the forces eyesight faded, until he went blind completely. His desire to return to Jerusalem, was no longer true. After his death - he died on 8 Kislev 5702 in Williamsburg - succeeded by his son, Rav Moshe, in his capacity as Rebbe after.

After the end of World War II, his remains were exhumed and transferred to Eretz Yisrael, where in addition to his father, he found his final resting place on the Mount of Olives. Supposedly were on his body, three and a half years after the first funeral, determine no signs of decay.
