The Pingouins de Morzine (official name: Hockey Club Morzine -Avoriaz, German: Morzine Penguins ) are a French ice hockey team from Morzine, which was founded in 1963. The team plays in the 2007/ 08 season in the Ligue Magnus.
Play their home games out of the club in the 1280 -seat Patinoire de Morzine.
History
Since the hockey tradition goes back in the Haute -Savoie to the 1930s, it was decided in 1963 to found a new club in Morzine. First, the team consisted largely of Swiss players, which was mainly because that the first coach of the team, Willy Trolliet, a number of players from his home country for the HC Morzine -Avoriaz committed. After the club had in 1986 won first place in the third-tier National 3 in a row for the third time, they rose to the National 2. Four years later, the team managed for the first time made it into the highest French league, then the National 1 After a season the Penguins were relegated to the second division. After several ups and downs the team has been playing the 2003/ 04 season back in the top French league. Reached in 2007, the Penguins for the first time the play-off final of the Ligue Magnus and lost with 1-3 victories against the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble.
1979 participated for the first and so far only time a women's team of the club on the French Cup finals.
