Pinguicula grandiflora

Großblütiges fat (Pinguicula grandiflora )

The Large-flowered fat (Pinguicula grandiflora ) is a carnivorous plant in the genus of fat herbs ( Pinguicula ), in the section Pinguicula. It was first described in 1789 by Jean -Baptiste de Lamarck.

Description

To the winter, the plant again forms a rosette and winter to spring from a (larger) summer rosette. Fleshy, light green, broad - ovate leaves thereby form a flat rosette lying on the ground with up to 8 cm in diameter. At the leaf surface sit -stalked glands that secrete a catch slime and therefore the leaf surface has sticky ( greasy ). If the prey (eg, fungus gnats, ants or pollen) decreased the plant on the glue, this is then digested by enzymabsondernde, sitting on the leaf surface glands.

From May to August Großblütige fat herb flowers at a up to 15 cm high, also occupied with fishing and digestive glands, growing from the center of the rosette flower stalks pink - violet to purple, pure white with a single occurrence in Ireland, single, zygomorpher, Spurred flower with a diameter up to 4.5 cm. The is forming bright green or red fruit capsules carry plenty of fine, black seeds.

Dissemination

The Large-flowered fat herb is native to western Europe ( Ireland, Spain, France and Switzerland ), but radiates to Morocco from. It prefers mossy, moist, semi-shady locations and is kalkliebend. If too little water, it represents the leaf production a until further notice, that is, it starts a sort of hibernation.

System

The species has often been further subdivided into subspecies, varieties and forms. Accepted however, is next to the type only

  • Pinguicula grandiflora subsp. rosea, endemic to Grenoble, smaller flower and spur, considerably paler bloom.
