Pio Vittorio Vigo

Pio Vittorio Vigo ( * November 4, 1935 in Acireale, Catania, Italy) is a retired Bishop of Acireale.

Biography

Pio Vittorio Vigo studied in Rome at the Almo Collegio Capranica. On September 20, 1958 he was ordained a priest. In 1963 he received his doctorate at the Pontifical Gregorian University.

On January 13, 1981 Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed Titular Bishop of Astigi and Auxiliary Bishop of Catania. The episcopal ordination he received on 14 February 1981 by Cardinal Salvatore Pappalardo.

On March 7, 1985 Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed Bishop of Nicosia, on 24 May 1997 to the Archbishop of Monreale. During his tenure, the dissolution of the ecclesiastical province of Monreale on 2 December 2000 and the assignment of the Archdiocese was a suffragan to the Ecclesiastical Province of Palermo.

On October 15, 2002 Pio Vittorio Vigo was appointed Bishop of Acireale. The solemn inauguration took place in the Cathedral of Acireale, on 30 November 2002. On July 26, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the Pio Vittorio Vigo put forward reasons of age resignation from the office of Bishop of Acireale.
