Piotr Beczała
Piotr Beczala ( born December 28, 1966 in Czechowice- Dziedzice ) is a Polish lyric tenor.
Life and artistic work
Beczala studied singing in Katowice. After engagements in Linz (1992-1997) and Zurich (from 1997) and his first international appearances as Tamino in The Magic Flute at the Salzburg Festival (1997), at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Vienna State Opera (1998) followed an international career in which he established himself worldwide as one of the main representatives of the lyric tenor compartment.
In 2000, he had role debuts as the Duke in Rigoletto at the Opera Zurich and as a shepherd in Szymanowski's King Roger ( Król Roger ) at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. He also sang Tamino again at the Opéra National de Paris.
2001 embodied the Beczala Lensky in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin ( Yevgeny Onegin ) at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Orombello in Beatrice di Tenda in Zurich, Vaudémont in " Iolanta " in Vienna and the Italian singer in Der Rosenkavalier in Brussels.
In 2002 he sang the Elvino in La sonnambula in Zurich, the singer in Der Rosenkavalier at the Hamburg State Opera and the State Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin, as well as the Duke in Rigoletto in Zurich, as well as the Franz Grove in the first full concert rendition of Jacques Offenbach's only greatly reduced in the 19th century listed opera Rheinnixen ( which is also a CD production before ).
2003 Beczala sang again in Eugene Onegin, this time at the Opéra National in Paris. He also had his role debuts as Jeník in The Bartered Bride ( Prodaná nevěsta ) at the Zurich Opera and Rodolfo in La Bohème at the Opera Nederslandse Amsterdam.
In 2004, he had role debut as Faust at the Royal Opera House London. He also sang in Der Rosenkavalier at the Salzburg Festival, the Alfredo in La Traviata in Athens and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
2005 had Beczala as Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto at Covent Garden, in Bellini's Beatrice di Tenda at the Hamburg State Opera, in Werther at the Frankfurt Opera and La Traviata in Bilbao.
In 2006 he made his debut at La Scala in Milan and New York's Metropolitan Opera, in both cases, as the Duke in Rigoletto, also at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Alfredo in La Traviata, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival and in Zurich.
2007 Beczala first Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor in Zurich. He also worked in Rigoletto in his debut at the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw, Werther and Rigoletto in Munich, The Magic Flute at the San Francisco Opera and La Traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
In 2008 he sang for the first time Riccardo in A Masked Ball at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, also he was in Eugene Onegin at Covent Garden in London and La Traviata at the Wiener Staatsoper. At the Salzburg Festival Beczala was a role debut as the Prince in Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák.
In February 2010 Beczala took over at the New York Metropolitan Opera, the role of Rodolfo in La Bohème at the side of Anna Netrebko as Mimi.
Piotr Beczala also acts very successful as a concert soloist; his concert repertoire ranges from Mozart, Cherubini and Haydn, Schubert, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Bruckner, Berlioz and Dvorak back to Rossini's Stabat Mater, Verdi's Messa da Requiem and Mahler's Song of the Earth.
