Piotr Żyła

Piotr Żyła ( born January 16, 1987 in Cieszyn ) is a Polish ski jumper. His biggest international success is the bronze medal with the Polish team at the World Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme.

Career

Żyła began at the age of eight years to jump on and starts for the club KS Wisła Ustronianka. He played his first international competitions in 2003. During the season 2004/ 05 he came in several Continental Cup for use. At the Junior World Championships 2005 in Rovaniemi he could win with the Polish team a silver medal. The following summer, 2005, he started with some jumping Summer Grand Prix, but could never reach the points. At the beginning of the following winter season 2005/ 06 he reached the Continental mediocre finishes, but still got the end of January 2006, using the World Cup in Sapporo. With a 19th place he could instantly win World Cup points. On 4 February 2006, he won the Continental Cup competitions in Villach. But except for a fourth place in Iron Mountain, he could only reach positions in the midfield in the remaining Continental Cup season. In the following season 2006/ 07 he commuted between World and Continental back and forth. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 in Sapporo, he was also employed. Although he missed the second round in both individual competition, he was able to achieve a fifth place in the team competition with the Polish team. In the summer of 2007, he again took part in the Summer Grand Prix and was in a high class competition win his first result in the top 10 with a 7th place in Hakuba. In the winter season 2007/ 08 he moved back between World and Continental back and forth, but got a bet at the Ski Flying World Championships 2008 in Oberstdorf, where he was able to prove a tenth place in the individual competition. In summer 2008 he started mainly in the Continental. In the Polish Championships on the large hill on 14 February 2009, he jumped in third for the first time on a medal rank.

His first two podium finishes he ersprang in the first half of 2011 with the Polish team in the team competition in Willingen, in Lahti. On January 9, 2013, could erspringen sixth place on the large hill his best individual score in the World Cup at home in Wisła.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013, he won with his team-mate Maciej Kot, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch behind Austria and Germany the bronze medal in the team competition and thus the first Polish team medal in ski jumping at the World Cup. In Trondheim Zyla decided the qualification for themselves. A few days later, on 17 March 2013, then won his first World Cup victory when he triumphed in cooperation with the Austrian Gregor Schlierenzauer at Holmenkollen in Oslo.
