Pirate Party Iceland

Píratar ( Party Letter: Þ ) is the Icelandic pirate party.

History

The party was founded on 24 November 2012 after several months of preparation phase in Reykjavík. First President Birgitta Jónsdóttir is, members of the Icelandic parliament Althingi.

The party was at their first shows, to the parliamentary elections in Iceland in 2013 5.1% of the vote, so they conquered three seats in the Althing.

Structure

The executive committee consists of seven members. The President is to be regarded as Chairman of the Board must be considered " equal among equals ". Two Board members are selected at random, the other four were selected by Transferable Einzelstimmgebung.

On August 20, 2013, the youth organization ungir Píratar was founded. This can join people from 15 to 30 years. The ungir Piratar are members of European youth organization Young Pirates of Europe.

Program

In its program, the party depends, inter alia for the following elements:

  • The right of individuals to procure information must not be affected,
  • Each person should have the right to privacy
  • Information should be made available to the public
  • Civil rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of information may not be limited and must be protected especially
  • Direct democracy is to be strengthened and the centralization of power can be reduced
