Pirates of Catalonia

Pirates de Catalunya ( PIRATA.CAT, Catalan for Pirates of Catalonia ) is a party in the Spanish autonomous region of Catalonia. It was founded on 4 October 2010 as a sister party, the Partido Pirata and sees itself as part of the international movement of Pirate Parties.

On 28 November 2010, the party held its first meeting in 2010 in the parliamentary election in Catalonia and reached there 0:21 percent of the vote. In the local elections in May 2011, the party was able to double their number of votes and won one seat each in Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Sant Fruitós de Bages. Among the Spanish parliamentary elections on 20 November 2011, the party joined in all four provinces of Catalonia and reached 0.6 % of the votes in the House of Representatives election and between 0.8 % and 1.5 % at the election of senators. Also in the parliamentary elections in Catalonia in 2012, the party went to the country, reaching 0.49 % of votes.

International connections

Since according to the statute of the Pirate Parties International ( PPI) can only join a pirate party of a state there, the PIRATA.CAT is only an observer member in the PPI, while the Partido Pirata Español is a voting member national. PIRATA.CAT is however a member of the European pirates.

Party leadership

Secretary General of the party is Xavier " Xavi " Vila i Espinosa ( b. 1976 ), who ran in the 2010 parliamentary elections for the constituency of Barcelona, spokesman Kenneth Peiruza Cerdán (* 1978).

Grumets ( youth organization )

The youth organization of the party is called Grumets de Catalunya ( dt ship's boy of Catalonia ). Members of the Grumets may be 16-30 years old.
