Pirnaischer Platz

The Pirnaische place is a place in Dresden, which goes back as well as the post office place on a historical gate system of the ancient fortress city of Dresden. On Pirnaischer place the same suburban begins.

Location

The site is located on the eastern edge of the Inner Old Town and on the western edge of the suburb Pirnaischer. In the present cross at the place the Innenstadtdurchfahrung and the bypass system in north-south direction.

History

Until the demolition of the city wall was there from 1591 to 1820 the Pirnaische gate, the output of the city, turning to Pirna. With the defeat of the door 1820/1821 of the free space, which was designed and created by Gottlob Friedrich Meyer was Thor.

After the creation of the ring road, the breakthrough of King John's Street, which later became the eastern part of Wilsdruffer road, and the investment of Grunaer street, the place became an important transportation hub. In February 1945, during air raids on Dresden the development of the square was destroyed. Among the destroyed buildings included the very 1895-1897 built the Imperial Palace ( the office building Illgen ) and the Ethiopians pharmacy. Development

Traffic

From north to south crosses the St. Petersburg street the place. This four-lane federal highway ( B170 ) crosses Dresden on the northerly Carola Bridge and is considered an important city bypass in this direction. The Wilsdruffer road that runs to the post office space is downgraded in importance. The extension of this road to the east is also the four-lane Grunaer road that leads to the Strasbourg court.
