Position of the Piscataquis River as a right ( west ) tributary of the Penobscot River in the catchment area

The Piscataquis River is a right tributary of the Penobscot River in Penobscot County Piscataquis and the U.S. state of Maine.

The Piscataquis River is formed at the confluence of its two headwaters of West Branch and East Branch about 20 km south of Moosehead Lake, 2 km west of Lake Hebron. He initially flows in a southeasterly direction to the Abbot and on to Gulford. He now flows past in an easterly direction to Sangerville and Dover - Foxcroft. Southeast of Milo opens the Sebec River and shortly thereafter the Pleasant River from the left in the river. He finally ends after about 100 km of Howland in Penobscot River flowing southward.

From the Penobscot River Restoration Trust is intended to decommission the hydroelectric power plant at the mouth of the Piscataquis River in Howland and to allow flow around the associated dam.
