Píšťany

Píšťany ( German Pistian ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located across from Lovosice on the Elbe and belongs to Okres Litoměřice.

Geography

The village is located in a loop of the same on the right bank between the river and the quarry Zernosecke Lake. On the opposite side of the river flows the Modla. The low-lying river valley site is in the northeast of Radobýl, in the north of the Třešňovka (261 m), dominated by Lovoš in the east. Accessible Píšťany is exclusively by road from Žalhostice.

Neighboring towns are Velké Žernoseky in the north, Žalhostice in the east, Lovosice in the southwest, Lhotka nad Labem in the west and Malé Žernoseky in the northwest.

History

Was first documented Píšťany in 1057 as part of the foundation of the collegiate St. Stefan in Litoměřice by Duke Spytihněv II. Since the 13th century belonged to the largest part of the town Leitmeritzer patrician families, whereby the cathedral chapter had a share.

In the 15th century consisted in the Elbe Valley Píšťany the festivals that William of Ronow 1432 bequeathed to Zawisch of phonolite. After several changes of ownership, bought in 1543, the city Leitmeritz place and feasts on. After participating in the anti-Habsburg uprising in 1547, the city lost this property back to 1558 and was Ulrich Dubanský of Duban Lord of Píšťany. Following the repurchase by the city Píšťany remained until the replacement of patrimonial regimes in the 1850 municipal ownership of Leitmeritz.

During the Thirty Years War, the fort was destroyed and disappeared completely, so that their location is no longer known today. By the end of the 18th century lived in a village with about 130 inhabitants, only Czechs. Below sat here a Germanization and by 1900 the number of inhabitants grew to 200, of which three quarters were German. At the time, Pistian from 40 houses. The inhabitants lived by farming or working in the factories of Lobositz, where a ferry led. 1875 was that of a park surrounded Neo-Renaissance villa " Red Lisa", was one of the owners of the Usti soap manufacturer Johann layer. On January 27, 1911, seasoned with Pistian and operated since the mid-17th century was demolished last ship mill on the Elbe.

Since the 1970s took place in the slip of the Elbknies gravel mining, through the north of Píšťany a large quarry with four islands emerged. The Zernosecke Lake is since 1990 in the municipality owned and used as fishing grounds and lake. Due to its location in the Elbe Valley Píšťany was repeatedly affected by flooding, and was last completely flooded in August 2002. One year after the flood of President Václav Klaus visited the site, now all flood damage has been repaired.
